Comagine Health administered an online Community Health Concerns survey in June 2023 as part of the COVID Community Health Outreach grant awarded by the Washington State Department of Health. The survey aimed to identify important demographic information about community members and explore health concerns related to COVID-19, vaccinations, social determinants of health, health care access and other chronic conditions like diabetes and asthma.
The Community Health Concerns survey, available in English and Spanish, included eight demographic questions and 13 health topics. It was promoted through Facebook ads in collaboration with three community-based organizations: the Martin Luther King Jr. Family Outreach Center, Southwest Washington Accountable Community of Health (SWACH) and the YMCA of Greater Seattle. QR code flyers were distributed at their June events. One $25 gift card was randomly awarded to encourage participation for every 25 respondents. After collecting data online, "bot" responses and those from non-Washington ZIP codes were removed during data cleaning.
The Community Health Concerns survey had 4,983 participants, representing 73.3% of Washington State ZIP codes. Among respondents, 50.3% were English speakers, while 49.7% spoke Spanish. Most were aged 25-64 (68.1%), with 50.4% identifying as male and 45.8% as female. Ethnicities included 41.4% White, 20.1% African American, 15.7% American Indian/Alaska Native and 12.5% Hispanic/Latino — additionally, 55.1% identified as LGBTQ+. Notably, 77.6% used public transportation, and 62.3% lived in apartments. In their households, 73.5% had members under 18, while 41.2% had members over 65.
